May 6th

Yesterday was an early start, we went to scope out the school and had a bit of a meet and greet. We met at the front lobby at 7 but a bunch of us had to return to our rooms to change bc we had to cover up at least down to the knees as well have our shoulders covered (hence the sweater in boiling weather). We taxied to the school 4 to cab which turns out to be about 20 baht each which is $0.66 each or so.  The school was pretty nice, the hallways and lobby has an open concept (similar to Mexico if youve been) so that air flows through. Hallways are not AC but the classrooms are. I found out i will be teaching two classess of 30! My prep area is one HUGE office shared by all Cdn staff but sectioned into grades. I lucked out bc i sit right beneath the AC.
The purpose of todays meet and greet was mostly to show us around the school, meet our corresponding thai teachers and get our purple shirts (youll see in later posts) that we are to wear at our team building outing tuesday and wednesday.

After we did everything at the school one of the former practicum student took us to the mall where she helped us find things. To get a phone unlocked here (iphone) was $100 Canadian! The girl that needed to unlock her phone decided that she was just gonna buy a new phone since a simple bar phone (samsung) was only $60 Canadian. Ive yet to pick up a sim card for my phone, not quite sure which company to go with. Some girls got a plan for under 100 baht ($3.33) that had 50 min talk time on it, but no text or data. We walked by a fancy food court area where they sold lots of goodies, and there was this one gelati place that looked liked mercato! Check out this flavor: Starwberry pocky! I didnt have any tho i was full already - bet it was tasty!

After the mall we went to Big C again (wal mart like store) to pick up some more stuff and  then we hit up the night market. I was getting pretty hungry and so settled for meat on sticks. They were pretty tasty ( 3 x 10 baht) but rather fatty! It helped me through most of the evening where we wandered the markets.

At the market i picked up a pretty neat looking watch. All the watches were super cheap (100 baht = $3.33) and pretty much disposable.
I also picked up a mirror to do make up at my desk as well as some fruits, rice and stir fry for dinner and tomorrows breakfast.

Not sure what this fruit is called but the texture is kind of like Ya pear and very lightly fragrant.
